Mendeleev Dmitry Ivanovich Biography

Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev is an outstanding scientist and researcher. Born on February 8 in the year in his name is closely connected with Odessa. It is here that the brilliant chemist, who discovered one of the basic laws of natural science - the periodic law of chemical elements, began his pedagogical activity. In May, Dmitry Ivanovich graduated from the St. Petersburg Pedagogical Institute, where he studied at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics.

But having received an appointment to Odessa, Mendeleev was forced to first go to the Crimea for health reasons. Doctors recommended the graduate to change the climate to a healthier. Since childhood, D. Mendeleev did not differ in good health, and in his student years in a humid St. Petersburg climate, he completely crumbled. In the last year of the institute, he had blood in his throat, and the doctors were afraid that the young man had the last degree of tuberculosis.

Thus, the court doctor who examined him as soon as possible to go to the Crimea as soon as possible to seem to be there an outstanding surgeon and anama N. Portrait of D. Mendeleev I. Mendeleev in the mantle of the doctor of the law of the University of Work I. In Crimea at that time there was a war, and Pirogov conducted surgery from morning to evening.

The prediction of the great surgeon came true exactly: Mendeleev survived both Pirogov and Zdecauer. Having worked for a short time in Simferopol, on November 4, Mendeleev arrives in Odessa. And on November 17, he is appointed as a teacher of mathematics and physics to the gymnasium under the Richelian Lyceum. A month later, he was transferred to the post of senior teacher of natural sciences.

Here, Mendeleev had the first, albeit small, but his own laboratory, had an excellent library at hand. In the Odessa gymnasium, the scientist also showed his pedagogical talents.

Mendeleev Dmitry Ivanovich Biography

So, in January of the year, Dmitry Ivanovich compiled a program of natural sciences for the gymnasium, soon adopted at a meeting of the pedagogical council. He also proposed a draft office of natural sciences. It was in Odessa that the future creator of the periodic system of elements prepared his first serious scientific works. Mendeleev was enthusiastically familiar with the geological features of the Black Sea region, studied new physical and geographical objects for him: salt lakes, estuaries, karst cavities.

Actively engaged in teaching, Dmitry Ivanovich worked on a master's thesis in his free time. Already at the beginning of the next year, it is a separate publication. It allowed him to get the first degree of a master. At twenty -two, Dmitry Mendeleev becomes a master of chemistry and physics. Alas, D. Mendeleev did not have to visit Odessa. However, scientific relations with Odessa colleagues have never weakened.

In Odessa, Dmitry Ivanovich had a wide range of communication - scientists, teachers, writers, engineers. For many years, D. Mendeleev was friends with another outstanding scientist, I. Mechnikov, who also lived and worked in Odessa and whose name is Odessa National University. Dmitry Ivanovich closely watched the creative successes of his Odessa friends, always willingly helped them.

He immediately responded to a telegram about equipment for a physical laboratory in Odessa G. Dmitry Ivanovich died on February 2. The merits of D. Mendeleev were highly appreciated by the scientists of Odessa: in the year he was elected an honorary member of the Novorossiysk University, and on January 30 - an honorary member of the Society of Naturalists at the University of Novorossiysk.

At the facade of the building on Deribasovskaya Street, 16, where the Richelian Lyceum was located, Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev was installed a commemorative board.
