Pjuzo biography
Puzu was born on October 15 in New York in a family of Italian immigrants. Father was a switchman on the railway, a mother - a housewife. After graduating from school, Puzo decided to become a military man. When the Second World War broke out, Puzo enrolled in the army. But because of poor vision, he was not sent to combat missions, but was determined to work in the rear support.
After the war ended, Puzu was educated at Columbia University, then he got a job as a clerk for the public service, where he worked for 20 years. From the year he began to write articles and stories for entertainment magazines. The first book by Mario Puzu “Arena of Darkness” was the light of the year. The story of the love of an American soldier and a German girl is largely autobiographically - with the first wife, Mario Puzo met in Germany.
The debut of a novice writer went unnoticed.
The second novel called “Happy Wanderer” Puszo decided to publish only 10 years later. And again, an excursion into the past: the heroes of the book became the Italian immigrants, in search of a place under the sun that came into America a period of great depression. The second novel befell the fate of the first. In the middle of X, Puzo began to write a “godfather”. He took up this work very reluctantly and with one purpose - to make money for the family.
By the age of 45, after the release of two books, he only had debts and he was no longer sure of his writer's gift. When the book was published in the year, it was waiting for a phenomenal success. And in total, more than 20 million copies of the novel were sold in the world. Then, the feature film of Francis Ford Coppola, the script for which Puzo himself wrote, was released on the screens.
The film brought the author millions of dollars, Oscar for the best scenario and, among other things, became one of the most cited ribbons of that time. For example, the well -known phrase “A sentence that cannot be abandoned” was first sounded in this picture. Two films-continuations were also waiting for a happy fate. But along with success came the loss: the writer's wife died of cancer, what he blamed himself for a long time.
In subsequent years, Puezo continued to write, but the rest of his books and scripts did not have such a noisy success as the “godfather”. For example, the novel "Fourth Kennedy" turned out to be an absolute failure. Four more novels were filmed in the form of films and series. For the past three years, Puchazo devoted to the work on the book “Omert”, which was published in the year.
And a year later, the historical novel “First Don” was published - the story of the Borgia family, on which Puzo worked since the year. The book was finished by the second wife of the writer Carol Gino. Mario Puzu died from a cardiac arrest at the age of 78, leaving behind not only books, but also five children and nine grandchildren. In memory of him, the then mayor of New York, Rudolf Juliani, the famous fan of the “godfather”, said: “Mario Puszo wrote one of America’s most convincing sagas.” Fantastic in the work of the author: the writer does not have works in the science fiction genre, but he was a co -author of the scenarios of feature films: Superman was awarded the Hugo Prize for the best production and Superman 2.
Epigraphs and quotes from this novel can be found in the books of Puzu “Dark Arena”, “Fools die”, “Fourth Kennedy” and “First Don”. Luke Brazi in the “godfather” is a creatively rethought image of Raskolnikov from the novel “Crime and Punishment”. Sites and links:.
